Pune: A Pune woman lost Rs 37.88 lakh to an online fraudster under the false pretext of marriage. An FIR was registered on July 1, 2023, at Talegaon Dabhade Police Station.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Satyavan Mane, Police Inspector, at Talegaon Dabhade Police Station said, “In June, the woman came in contact with the fraudster through an online marital platform. He told her that he wants to marry her and that he will courier an expensive gift for the engagement. The woman then received a call from a person posing as a representative of Delhi airport and demanding Rs 38,000 in customs fees. He called again saying that the fee will be more as the gift was worth Rs 3 crore or she would be charged for the offence. Consequently, the woman transferred Rs 37.88 lakh to the specified accounts, but she soon realized she had been duped.”

As per information from Satyavan Mane, a case has been registered against the online fraudsters under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & IT Act. Further investigation is going on, but there could be more than 2 persons involved in the crime.
