PUNE: Deputy Commissioner Vijay Magar of the traffic department has delivered a strong message to the city’s traffic police and taken action by suspending three traffic personnel.

This decision was prompted by an incident that occurred on Saturday on Jangli Maharaj Road in Pune, where the officers were collectively collecting fines from commuters despite heavy traffic congestion in the area.

The suspended constables, Jitendra Dattatray Bhagwat, Jayshing Yashwant Borane, and Gorakh Maruti Shinde, who are all from the Deccan Traffic Department, were observed by Deputy Commissioner Vijay Magar while he was traveling along Jangli Maharaj Road.

The traffic police were called upon to clear vehicles parked on the road, and during this crucial period, the Deputy Commissioner noticed the three constables gathered together, collecting fines from commuters. Their main responsibility was to go to JM Road to alleviate traffic congestion after receiving instructions from the control room, a task they failed to fulfill.

As a result, Deputy Commissioner Magar promptly issued an order to suspend the three constables for neglecting their duty. It is emphasized that traffic personnel should prioritize facilitating the smooth flow of traffic and resolving traffic jams rather than focusing on collecting fines as a group.

Assigning traffic officers in groups for the purpose of collecting fines goes against their designated responsibilities, according to official guidelines. The swift suspension of these constables sends a clear message that negligence and misconduct will not be tolerated. Authorities remain unwavering in their commitment to ensuring the safety and orderly movement of traffic on Pune’s roads.
