Pune, along with Raigad and Parbhani, has been added to the state’s vaccination campaign against Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

The drive covers sixteen districts where JE is found to be endemic. Pune, Raigad, and Parbhani are now part of the drive, bringing the total number of districts to 19.

This campaign, which is being conducted in both public and private schools, is aimed at about 45 lakh children.

Most likely, the campaign will launch at the end of March.

A mosquito carrying the JE virus can bite a person. Some people may feel fever, headache, and vomiting, but the majority may not show any symptoms. Seizures, coma, and disorientation may ensue from these.

According to a senior official of the state family welfare department, the campaign will expand to three additional districts starting this year. The intended audience will be about 45 lakh students. By the end of March, they will receive syringes and vaccines.
