Pune commuters traveling to Mumbai may face an increase in taxi fares, anticipated to commence from next month as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) announces a fare hike for yellow-black non-AC taxis and blue-silver AC taxis (Cool Cabs) plying various routes, including the Pune-Mumbai route.

Following persistent demands from Mumbai taxi drivers for fare revisions to Shirdi, Nashik, and Pune, MMRTA convened a meeting last month and disclosed revised fares. The drivers’ unions in Mumbai have been advocating for fare adjustments in line with the Khatua committee’s recommendations since December 2021.

The revised fares will affect three primary routes: Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Shirdi, and Mumbai-Pune. Although Pune doesn’t operate yellow-black taxi services, it’s a destination for such taxis from Mumbai. Conversely, blue-silver AC taxis operate on the Pune-Mumbai route.

According to an RTA official, passengers boarding from Mumbai heading towards Pune will incur an additional Rs 50 compared to previous fares for both AC and non-AC taxis. Meanwhile, passengers traveling to Nashik and Shirdi from Mumbai will witness a fare increase of Rs 100 and Rs 200 respectively.

The revised fare for non-AC taxis on the Mumbai-Pune route is slated to be Rs 500 instead of the earlier Rs 450, while for AC taxis, it will be Rs 575 instead of Rs 525. Similarly, AC taxi fares for the Mumbai-Nashik and Mumbai-Shirdi routes will rise to Rs 575 and Rs 825 respectively, up from the current Rs 475 and Rs 625.

Although the RTA has yet to announce the precise date for the fare hike’s implementation, the revised fare structure is expected to take effect from next month. The last fare revision for the Mumbai-Pune route occurred in August 2021, while fares for the Pune-Nashik and Pune-Shirdi routes have remained unchanged for the past twelve years.
