Pune Tourists’ Beach Fun Turns Costly As SUV Gets Trapped In Sand At Anjarle
Visitors from Pune ignored local warnings and drove their SUV close to the sea at Anjarle’s Savane Beach, where the vehicle became stuck in soft sand and required a rescue effort by villagers.
A beach outing at Anjarle’s popular Savane Beach in Ratnagiri district turned into an expensive lesson for a group of tourists from Pune after their SUV became trapped in soft sand near the shoreline.
The tourists had travelled to Dapoli taluka to enjoy the scenic Konkan coast and were reportedly drawn to the beach’s wide and flat shoreline. In an attempt to experience beach driving, they took their SUV onto the sand and later drove it closer to the seawater during high tide. The vehicle soon sank into the soft sand, leaving it stranded and unable to move.

According to local residents, the visitors were warned against taking the vehicle close to the water as the tide was rising and the sand in the area is known to be unstable. However, the warnings were allegedly ignored. As the SUV moved further toward the shoreline, its wheels became deeply embedded in the sand.
The tourists initially tried to free the vehicle themselves but were unsuccessful. The incident attracted attention from people nearby and briefly disrupted activity on the beach.
After being informed about the situation, villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue effort. Using ropes and other available equipment, they worked for nearly an hour before successfully pulling the SUV out of the sand.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, there are concerns that prolonged exposure to seawater and the strain of being trapped in sand may have caused damage to the vehicle’s lower body and mechanical components.
The incident has once again highlighted a recurring issue along the Konkan coastline, where visitors often attempt adventurous driving on beaches despite repeated warnings from locals. Residents say the sand structure along the coastal stretch between Dabhol and Kelshi changes constantly due to tidal movements, making it particularly dangerous for vehicles. What may appear to be a firm surface can quickly become soft enough to trap even large SUVs.
Anjarle Beach is one of the most visited coastal destinations in Ratnagiri district, known for its natural beauty, turtle nesting sites and the famous Kadyavarcha Ganpati Temple. With tourist numbers rising during holidays and vacations, local residents continue to urge visitors to follow safety guidelines and avoid driving vehicles into seawater or onto unstable beach sand.
