Pune, December 4, 2025: To curb the increasing number of accidents caused by speeding on the Katraj Bypass, the Pune City Traffic Department has made it mandatory to restrict vehicle speed to 40 kmph on this stretch.

The new speed limit will apply from the Katraj New Tunnel between Bhumkar bridge to Navale Bridge, falling under the jurisdiction of the Pune City Traffic Police. Exercising powers under Motor Vehicles Act Sections 115(1)(2)(B), 116(4) and 117, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav has issued an order fixing the maximum speed limit at 40 kmph for all vehicles—except emergency services such as fire brigade, police and ambulances.

These orders will come into effect from December 4, 2025. All previously issued notifications regarding speed limits on this route have been cancelled.

The traffic department has urged motorists to regularly check their vehicle speedometers and pay close attention to roadside signboards and markings. Violators of the new speed restrictions will face strict action based on CCTV and speed gun monitoring systems.

The Pune Traffic Branch has appealed to citizens to cooperate to ensure smooth and safe traffic movement across the city.
