Pune Traffic Police Proposes Relocation Of 27 Bus Stops To Ease Traffic Congestion
Pune: PMPML Launches Training Program For 3,000 Drivers To Tackle Traffic Violations, Focus On Mental Health
In a bid to alleviate traffic jams on city roads, the Pune traffic police have proposed relocating 27 PMPML bus stops. The decision comes after a study revealed that these bus stops are a major cause of traffic congestion and accidents.
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil said while speaking to the media person that, the police have identified 27 bus stops that need to be shifted to nearby locations for better traffic management. “We have prepared a plan and discussed it with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) officials,” Patil said.
The study found that bus stops located within 50 meters before or after signal junctions need to be relocated. “If a bus halts at such a stop, it causes a traffic jam at the signal. If multiple buses halt at such stops, it causes further traffic issues,” Patil explained.
Some of the bus stops that need to be relocated include five on Karve Road and Paud Road, two on Ganeshkhind Road, two on Shivaji Road, and three on Pune-Solapur Road. Patil also pointed out that almost all bus stops on Paud Road are located very close to traffic junctions, causing congestion.
The police have also identified specific bus stops that block vehicular traffic, such as the one at Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk (near Juna Bazaar). “Vehicles heading towards Maldhakka Chowk from RTO Chowk and Juna Bazaar are stuck behind the buses,” Patil said.
The relocation of these bus stops is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety. As Patil noted, “The problems will be reduced with proper bus bays.”
