Amidst mounting controversy surrounding the death of Sagar Renuse (30) at Sassoon General Hospital (SGH), Vasant More, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) candidate for the Pune Lok Sabha seat, made a symbolic gesture by presenting rat cages to hospital officials on Friday.

Renuse’s demise on April 1 while under ICU care sparked outrage as his family alleged negligence on the part of the hospital staff. They claimed to have found visible rat bites on Renuse’s body, further fueling accusations against the hospital administration.

Responding to the uproar, SGH’s dean, Vinayak Kale, announced the formation of a committee to probe the incident. While denying a direct link between the rat bites and Renuse’s death, Kale assured that appropriate actions would be taken based on the investigation’s findings.

Dr. Deelip Mhaisekar, Director of Medical Education and Research (DMER), received the committee’s report and pledged to review it thoroughly. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, asserting that any instances of rats harming patients, especially those in critical conditions, were intolerable.

In the midst of the controversy, More took to social media to express his concerns and threatened protests if those responsible for Renuse’s death were not held accountable.

The presentation of rat cages by More serves as a symbolic act highlighting the need for swift and decisive action to address the concerns raised by Renuse’s tragic demise.
