Pune Video: Drunk Man Lies in Front of Towing Van to Save Bike in Pune’s Dehu Phata
Frustrated over his two-wheeler being towed, the man blocked the traffic police vehicle, sparking a scene and public debate over parking woes.
In a bizarre protest in Pune’s Dehu Phata area, a two-wheeler owner, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, lay down in front of a towing van to stop traffic police from seizing his motorcycle. The incident took place on Thursday near Kale Colony as Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police were taking action against illegally parked vehicles.
When the man realized his vehicle was being towed, he positioned himself directly in front of the towing van and refused to budge, leading to a prolonged standoff with the police. Officers repeatedly asked him to move and tried to reason with him, but he continued to resist, resulting in a heated argument that drew a crowd of onlookers.
The protest drew attention not only because of the man’s actions but also due to broader public frustration. Commuters at the scene demanded that authorities provide designated parking spaces around Dehu Junction and Alandi City. Many urged the installation of “odd-even date” signboards to help manage the chaotic parking situation more fairly. Locals criticized the repeated towing actions in an area where parking provisions are virtually nonexistent.
After much persuasion, the intoxicated man was finally convinced to cooperate. He was made to pay a fine before the authorities released his two-wheeler.
“The motorcycle was parked in a no-parking zone. During towing, the person refused to pay the fine and instead lay down in front of the vehicle. He was under the influence of alcohol. Once we explained the consequences, he agreed to pay the fine and retrieved his vehicle,” said Traffic Officer Satish Nandurkar.
The incident has sparked fresh conversations about urban parking challenges and the need for better civic planning in rapidly growing suburban pockets like Dehu and Alandi.
