Pune: Viman Nagar Citizens Strongly Object To New One-Way Plan; List Detailed Concerns And Suggestions
Viman Nagar Residents Demand Rollback of One-Way Traffic Plan, Cite Safety Risks and Business Losses
Pune, November 17, 2025: The Viman Nagar Citizens Forum has raised strong objections to the newly notified one-way traffic system, stating that it has been implemented without resolving existing road obstructions and without considering critical gaps in infrastructure. Convenor Qaneez Sukhrani highlighted that despite two months of discussions, the Traffic Police proceeded with the one-way plan without addressing key concerns or conducting necessary assessments.
Krupali Bhatt, a resident of Viman Nagar commented that one way is not needed. There are so many encroachments in the area. Motorists don’t follow P1 and P2 regulations. There are several areas in Viman Nagar where traffic volume is high such as Konark Nagar, Airport road, Ganpati chowk to Dorabjee store chowk, Kailas side which needs to looked into properly by deploying traffic wardens during peak hours, also by removing encroachments as well as keeping footpaths accessible for pedestrians will help is smooth flow of traffic.
Below is the complete list of objections and previously submitted suggestions, presented exactly as raised, without removing any point:
Objections to the One-Way Traffic Plan
- Traffic Police has notified one-way routing in Viman Nagar despite ongoing discussions and without removing obstructions and obstacles, causing additional inconvenience for residents.
- Proposed route map appears unclear and poorly planned.
Specific Objections Raised:
- Conduct CURRENT & ASSESSED Traffic Survey before any routing changes.
- Traffic Police must study the Development Plan (DP) to understand that many roads are not acquired, causing an imbalance between population and available road space.
- A meeting chaired by DCP with PMC Road Dept, DP Dept, Building Dept, LAQ & LAM Depts has been requested for 6 months but no response has been received.
- Clarification needed on traffic flow from VIP Airport Road through Dorabjee before Gangapuram Chowk.
- Clarification on traffic movement on Mhada Road at Queensland before reaching Gangapuram Chowk.
- If vehicle speed increases, how will Police control traffic flow from and to Balghere Road?
- Will Balghere Road be two-way from Kailash Market to Optimus or one-way?
- If vehicle speed increases, how will Police manage traffic flow from Kailash Market Road, Police Station Road, Joggers Park Road, which are two-way?
- If Air Force Road is two-way, how will Police control traffic movement from the one-way at Ganpathy Chowk?
- How will Police manage vehicles moving from two-way Air Force Road towards Shri Krishna Hotel Chowk?
- Map does not show how Police will regulate two-way traffic entering from Nagar Road towards Shri Krishna Hotel Road.
- Phoenix Mall is wrongly marked on the map; it should be on the right side, not the left.
- If vehicle speed increases, how will Police manage traffic flow from one-way Shri Krishna Hotel Road to Kailash Market Road, Police Station Road, Joggers Park Road which remain two-way?
- Why is the road towards Neco Garden marked ‘wrong way’ at Datta Mandir Chowk?
- How will Police regulate two-way traffic at Datta Mandir Chowk moving from Neco Garden to Sakhore Nagar?
- How will Police regulate vehicles moving from CCD Chowk to Gold Coast/Symbiosis to join VIP Airport Road?
- How will traffic move from CCD Chowk to Oakwood Society?
- What are the Traffic Police plans to manage jam-ups and confusion at Gangapuram Chowk, Ganpathy Mandir Chowk, Shri Krishna Hotel Chowk, Datta Mandir Chowk and CCD Chowk after implementing the one-way?
Suggestions Pending for Over Six Months
Signals
- Install traffic signal at Dorabjee Chowk.
- Operate the signal at Gangapuram Chowk during peak hours (9–11 am and 6–9 pm) to regulate traffic.
Wardens
- Deploy wardens at Shrikrishna Chowk, Dorabjee Chowk (until signal installation), Nexa Showroom and Symbiosis School.

Road & Infrastructure Improvements
- Optimus Road off Mhada Road must be widened as per DP.
- DP Road along Symbiosis is ready and must be opened for traffic.
- Speed-breakers required as per IRC norms, not rubber bumps, to control speeding.
- Potholes and manholes must be properly levelled with high-quality PMC material.
- Trenching Policy: Police must ensure NOC is issued; barricades and information boards are missing at trenching sites, causing confusion and congestion.
Parking Management & Regulations
- P1/P2 boards must be installed immediately, especially on the road from Kailash Market to Datta Mandir Chowk, to prevent two-sided parking.
- Autos must be disciplined to wait only at RTO-permitted locations. Action needed against autos occupying wrong zones (P1 instead of P2 and vice versa).
- Ban parking of private taxicabs, bank vans, buses and tempos on public streets.
- These vehicles must be moved to government-approved multi-modal traffic locations away from residential areas.
- Buildings such as Panchsheel, Solitaire, Orville must ensure visitor and student parking is done inside premises, not on public roads.
- PMC must remove all encroachments, illegal hawkers and debris from the roads.
Residents have demanded that no one-way system be implemented until the above issues are studied, resolved and backed by proper traffic assessments. The Forum has reiterated its willingness to work with authorities to develop a logical, safe and practical traffic plan for Viman Nagar.
