Pune: Viman Nagar’s Long-Awaited One-Way Traffic System Finally Becomes A Reality
Pune, November 17, 2025: After years of persistent congestion, overflowing junctions, and dangerously slow emergency response times, Viman Nagar finally has relief. The long-pending one-way traffic system was activated this week, marking a major milestone for residents who have been advocating for smoother and safer mobility in the area.
For decades, peak-hour travel in Viman Nagar had become a nightmare—covering even a single kilometre often took 60–70 minutes during evenings. Ambulances and emergency vehicles routinely faced delays of up to 20–30 minutes, raising concerns about public safety and the livability of the neighbourhood.
The implementation of the new one-way layout is expected to streamline vehicular movement, reduce gridlocks, and bring much-needed discipline to the busy internal roads.
“We are deeply grateful to the local politicians, police department, and every resident who supported this initiative. It feels like a dream come true,” said Pawan Sharma, Secretary of Lunkad Goldcoast, expressing the collective relief and optimism of the community.
A Victory for Citizen-Led Advocacy
The successful rollout of the new system is the result of persistent grassroots efforts. Several social workers and community leaders dedicated years to highlighting the need for the change, conducting surveys, coordinating with authorities, and rallying resident support.
Among those who played key roles in driving the initiative were Vivek Deo, Anita Hanumante, Pawan Sharma, Shyam Kudyadi, Ashwani Desai, Binod Nair, Sonu Singh, William Michale and Anagha Dhara.
Their sustained efforts, supported by the Surendra Foundation, ensured that the proposal remained a priority for city authorities despite multiple administrative hurdles.
With the one-way system now operational, residents are hopeful that traffic conditions in Viman Nagar will improve significantly in the coming weeks. The move is also expected to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce pollution levels caused by long idling times.
For many, the moment marks not just an infrastructural upgrade but a testament to what dedicated community action can achieve.
