Residents of Vimannagar worry as the drainage work near Kailash Chowk is pending for a long time, causing daily traffic issues.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sajid Attarwala, Resident of Hermes Drome Society, Vimannagar, said “There is no work being done regarding the drainage work. Only the road has been dug up. What I have observed is that sometimes, for the whole day, the drainage work won’t progress but, in the evening, especially when it is peak hours for traffic, the drainage work begins. It has become a nuisance as it becomes difficult to even ride a small scooter. Fortunately, traffic police personnel are there to control the traffic. The start point of the work is from Hermes Drome till Kailash Supermarket Chowk. This patch is stuck for a lot of time. So, this work has to be completed fast.”

Deepaksingh Rajput, Resident of Gokul Gardens, Vimannagar, said “The work is completely stuck & not progressing. Due to half of the road being dug up, only the other half can be used by vehicles to commute. Whenever vehicles of one side proceed & other side traffic is stopped, it is stopped till Konark Nagar. People can’t go back as well due to the other side completely dug up for this drainage work. To add to the traffic issues, there are roadside hawkers & vendors on the road. The traffic congestion is completely there from 6/6:30 pm to 9 pm on that road.”

Qaneez Sukhrani, Pune citizen activist & Resident of Vimannagar, said “This work has been going on for 3 months. It started at Gangapuram Chowk. It’s only done for 300m in the last 3 months. The contractor seems to be incompetent. The existing sewage line was very old & wasn’t coping with the increase in population. Hence, the drainage work is going on. But there shouldn’t be a delay in doing the work. The entire road is 15m. The PMC has dug up more than half & the work is going on very slowly. Also, on the other half of the road which is open for commuting, potholes have developed. This is very dangerous as, on one side of the road, drainage work is going on & on the other side, potholes are there. The PMC has said they will get back, but nothing has happened. The path from Gangapuram to Kailash Supermarket Chowk is only 300 m. This much time can’t be taken to do the work. There is also no information board regarding the work which is very wrong.”

Rajendra Jadhav, Executive Engineer, PMC Drainage Department, said “The work of the current stretch will be completed in 8 days. Apart from this, work of another 200m line is pending, which will be completed soon.”
