Pune, January 1, 2026: Residents of Wadgaonsheri have raised urgent concerns over long-standing gaps in basic civic amenities, highlighting disparities in development funding and resource allocation compared with neighbouring areas.

The charter of demands was raised by Mira Shah, Shyamal Basu, Rajan Batra.

The Clean Wadgaonsheri Group, after conducting surveys, public consultations, and field observations over the past year, revealed systemic issues affecting hygiene, safety, and infrastructure. Residents report irregular garbage collection, sewage mixing with stormwater near St. Arnold’s School, potholed roads with temporary patchwork repairs, and stalled road construction to Kalyaninagar, which has been delayed for over two decades.

Safety concerns extend to schoolchildren, with nearly 10 large schools in the area lacking continuous footpaths, forcing students and parents to walk dangerously close to speeding traffic.

The citizens’ charter compiled by the group outlines immediate demands for improved waste management, safe roads, reliable footpaths, and functional stormwater systems. Organizers emphasize that these are not aspirational requests but essential requirements for the well-being and security of Wadgaonsheri residents.
