Pune: Wagholi Residents Expose 15-Year Neglect, Demand Action Over Drainage Crisis and Encroachment
Pune – Residents of BAIF Road in Wagholi have issued a desperate plea, highlighting a worsening public health crisis triggered by the prolonged negligence of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and lack of accountability from local political representatives. Despite thousands of families residing in the area, there is still no proper drainage system, resulting in wastewater flowing openly on the streets.
This has not only made daily life difficult but has also led to contamination of borewell water, posing a severe health threat, especially to children and the elderly. A temporary drainage and stormwater line laid by the builder was initially meant to connect to a natural nullah. However, residents allege that the nullah has been illegally encroached upon and buried, reportedly for the benefit of private builders—with the silent approval of PMC officials and political representatives.
Adding to the outrage, the existing stormwater and drainage lines have been deliberately blocked, residents say, without any official documentation or approval. Complaints raised on civic platforms are routinely dismissed under the pretext that the area is “non-serviceable.” Residents now question how unauthorized decommissioning of essential infrastructure was permitted if the area isn’t even officially recognized.
“This is not just negligence; it appears to be a well-orchestrated plan to disrupt our infrastructure and suppress our civic rights,” said a resident.
Despite paying taxes for over 15 years, locals claim they’ve received no basic services in return. They are now demanding transparency, accountability, and immediate action to restore the nullah, unblock the drainage lines, and hold responsible authorities accountable.
