Pune: Wanowrie Resident Among 4 Dead In Kundmala Bridge Collapse; Over 50 Injured
Pune, June 16: A tragic incident unfolded in Maval taluka’s Kundmala area yesterday when a bridge over the Indrayani river collapsed, sending dozens of tourists plummeting into the water. The disaster claimed four lives and left over 50 people injured.
Among the deceased was Chandrakant Gunaji Sathale, a resident of Azad Nagar in Wanowrie, Pune. He had gone on a monsoon outing with his family when the unfortunate event occurred. His sudden demise has left the Wanowrie and Azad Nagar community in deep sorrow, with residents mourning the loss of a well-known and respected member.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and chaos as the bridge gave way under the weight of the crowd. Rescue teams rushed to the spot, and the injured were immediately taken to Talegaon Dabhade General Hospital. Mahesh Punde confirmed that members of Wanowrie’s Lakshya Pratishthan team reached the hospital to extend support to the affected families.
The exact cause of the collapse is under investigation, and officials have promised a thorough inquiry. Meanwhile, the tragedy has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of public infrastructure, especially in tourist hotspots during the monsoon season.
