Pune Weather Alert: Red Alert Issued for Heavy Rainfall in Ghat Areas, Mulshi and Bhima River Residents Advised to Stay Alert
Pune, July 6, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune district today, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the ghat areas over the next 3-4 hours. The information was shared on the official IMD weather website.
Mulshi Dam Water Release Begins
As of 2:00 PM, the Mulshi Dam water level has reached 603.36 meters, with a storage capacity of 416.044 MCM, which is 72.89% full. To manage the rising water levels, 1,300 cusecs of water is currently being released into the Mula River through the dam’s spillway. Authorities have stated that if rainfall continues or increases, the water release may be adjusted accordingly.
Public Advisory for Mulshi and Bhima River Residents
Residents living near riverbanks are strictly advised not to enter the riverbed. Livestock, agricultural equipment, and any materials kept near the river should be shifted to safer locations immediately. People in low-lying areas are urged to take precautionary measures and stay alert for further updates.
Controlled Water Discharge from Chaskaman Dam into Bhima River Tomorrow
As of now, the Chaskaman Dam is 73.13% full due to continuous rainfall in its catchment areas. To regulate water levels, the Water Resources Department will begin a controlled release of water into the Bhima River via escape gates from 11:00 AM on July 7, 2025.
Residents along the Bhima River are requested to stay away from the riverbed and ensure all water pumps, farming equipment, and animals near the river are moved to safe zones. Citizens in low-lying areas should remain vigilant and cooperate with the Water Resources Department and local administration for safety.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain cautious and follow safety advisories.
