Pune Weather : Heavy rains lash Pune city, Shivaji Nagar receives 24.4 mm rainfall

Pune: Heavy rains pounded Pune city on Thursday evening, causing waterlogging in many areas.

According to the Fire Brigade officials, a total of seven tree falling incidents have been reported in the Kothrud, Erandwane, Bavdhan,Aundh and Baner area of the Pune city. Officials further told that,incident of a banner falling on the bus was reported at Kothrud depot.However no casualties have been reported in the city.

Waterlogging was witnessed in many areas including Hadapsar, Market Yard, Sinhgad Road, NIBM Road, B T Kawade Road, Katraj, Deccan, Karve Nagar, Kothrud, Kondhwa and Peth areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), RADAR image shows a thick cloud cover of 11 km height seen in Pune city and it has potential of thunder,lightning and may cause another heavy and intense rain spell across the city.

IMD’s weather forecasting department head Anupam Kashyapi said the satellite images show enough cloud mass and forecast upgraded to light to moderate rain with one intense spell.”

The city is expected to stay cloudy with lightning and thunder activity along with light to moderate rainfall, he said.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shivajinagar witnessed 24.4 mm rainfall in about two – three hours till 8:42 pm on Thursday, while Lohegaon received 2.2 mm rainfall and Lavale recorded 1.0 mm of rainfall during the same period.
