After enduring a prolonged spell of scorching heat, Punekars can finally anticipate some relief as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light rainfall in Pune on April 7 and 8. Over the past week, the city has been sweltering, with nighttime temperatures soaring well above normal levels. However, recent observations indicate a promising drop in temperatures, offering respite from the oppressive heat.

Senior meteorologist Shilpa Apte attributes this change to a trough line spanning from south Tamil Nadu to east Vidarbha, traversing Karnataka and Marathwada. While the next few days are expected to remain dry with a gradual rise in maximum temperatures, central Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions may witness light rainfall between April 5 and 8. Despite a mainly clear sky forecasted for the next five days, Pune may experience partly cloudy conditions in the afternoon or evening.

Nevertheless, April 7 and 8 are likely to bring a cloudy sky with a chance of light rainfall. Looking ahead, minimum temperatures are expected to dip slightly, while daytime temperatures will persist at elevated levels for the next 72 hours, with a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius anticipated in Pune.

Vineet Kumar, a scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, supports these projections, citing the IMD-GFS model forecast for potential rain on April 7 to 8, coinciding with continued high temperatures until then.
