PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is advising people to carry umbrellas while going outside, as they have predicted rainfall in Pune and its surrounding areas over the next five days.

In a statement released by the IMD, it was mentioned that the final phase of monsoon rainfall has commenced. Although there are only nine days left until the official end of Monsoon 23, the monsoon is expected to continue into October. Cities such as Chandrapur, Panjim, Amravati, Alibaug, and Matheran have been experiencing significant rainfall. Overall, the state has received normal rainfall, with a deficit of 9% compared to the average. However, 13 districts are still experiencing a deficiency in rainfall.

According to the latest information received, as of 8:41 p.m. on Thursday, Shivajinagar recorded 2.1 mm of rainfall, while Lavale experienced the highest rainfall of 22.5mm. Chandrapur, on the other hand, recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 150mm on Thursday. Since August, the monsoon has been relatively inactive, except for a few days in September.

The recent revival of the monsoon is a much-needed relief from the prolonged dry spell. Pune district is currently 15% below its average normal rainfall, and it is anticipated that the rainfall expected in the upcoming days will help compensate for this deficit.
