Pune, October 27, 2025: Light to moderate rain lashed several parts of Pune city and adjoining areas on Sunday evening, bringing much-needed respite from the heat but also causing traffic snarls and commuter inconvenience.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chinchwad and Shivajinagar observatories recorded 14mm and 8mm of rainfall respectively, while the NDA area received 4mm during the two-hour downpour. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pune and nearby regions until October 28, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and light rain, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.Traffic was affected across multiple parts of the city, including the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, Navale Bridge, NIBM Road, Kondhwa, Wanowrie, and Shivajinagar. Commuters reported long waits for cabs and auto rickshaws.

Rainfall was also reported from across the state, including parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Heavy showers in North Maharashtra over the weekend damaged standing and harvested crops like maize, onion, cotton, and paddy in Nashik, Dhule, and Jalgaon districts. State agriculture officials have begun assessing the losses.

The IMD attributed the current weather activity to a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal that intensified into a deep depression and is expected to turn into a cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours.

Another system over the east-central Arabian Sea lies around 760 km west-southwest of Mumbai, further influencing rainfall patterns across Maharashtra.Meanwhile, Mahabaleshwar recorded 22mm of rain by Sunday evening, while Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara also experienced moderate to heavy rainfall.

The Koyna dam catchment area in Satara reported 12mm in Koynanagar and 7mm in Navaja within a few hours.
