Pune Woman Assaulted After Being Lured On Bike; Bhigwan Police Arrest Accused Using Over 100 CCTV Footages
Pune, October 20, 2025: A shocking incident of sexual assault has come to light in Bhigwan, Indapur taluka, Pune, leaving the city shaken. On the night of September 10, around 3:30 a.m., a woman was lured under the pretext of giving her a lift on a bike. The assailant then threatened her life and took her into the bushes, where he committed the assault.
The accused, identified as Jakya Chavan, a resident of Malwadi Lingali in Daund taluka, has been arrested by Bhigwan police.
According to police, Jakya offered the woman a lift on his two-wheeler and, after reaching near the railway bridge in Maldad village, stopped the bike. He threatened her with death, took her into the bushes, and assaulted her. A case was registered at Bhigwan Police Station, and six police teams were deployed to trace the suspect.
With the help of over 100 CCTV cameras and local informants, police successfully apprehended the accused, Jakya Kondkya, who has confessed to the crime. Assistant Police Inspector Dipali Gaikwad is leading the investigation.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Pune District Police Superintendent Sandeep Singh Gill, Additional Police Superintendent Ramesh Bopde, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ganesh Biradar, Dr. Sudarshan Rathod, Bapurao Dadas Patil, and Senior Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, along with the Bhigwan Police Station investigation team and Daund Police Crime Branch officers. The coordinated effort ensured the swift arrest of the offender.
