PUNE: A female employee at an IT company in Pune’s Viman Nagar reportedly committed suicide after her boyfriend refused to repay the loans she had taken out for him.

The woman, identified as Rasika Ravindra Diwate, 25 years old and a resident of BT Kavade Road, had bought a used car for her boyfriend with the expectation that he would reimburse her. Adarsh Ajaykumar Menon, a resident of Z Corner, Manjari, was arrested by the Hadapsar police following a complaint from Rasika’s mother, Chanda Diwate, who works as a private nurse.

Chanda alleged that Adarsh had encouraged Rasika to commit suicide. Menon, originally from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, has been charged under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code. According to the police, Rasika and Adarsh were in a relationship and worked together at the same company since January of this year.

In April, Rasika purchased a second hand car for Adarsh, paying the down payment herself. Adarsh had promised to reimburse her and take care of the remaining loan installments. Rasika had also taken out loans totaling Rs 3 lakh from her credit cards and given the money to Adarsh, in addition to another Rs 2.75 lakh in personal loans.

As per the information received, she had even obtained additional loans through mobile apps on behalf of Adarsh. As per the complaint, Adarsh failed to fulfill his promise of repaying the loans, causing Rasika to become increasingly stressed over the past few months.

She informed her mother that she was concerned because Adarsh had not been making the loan payments as agreed, leaving her responsible for the debt. Rasika also mentioned that the frequent fights between them were a result of this issue. On September 14, Rasika called her mother to inform her that they had argued again, this time about Adarsh’s refusal to pay the accumulating loan installments. On Friday, Chanda received a call from one of Rasika’s friends at 4 am, informing her that her daughter had attempted suicide at Adarsh’s apartment in Manjari and that they were rushing her to Noble Hospital in Hadapsar.
