Pune Youth Congress Demands Immediate Action Over IT Employee’s Death In Viman Nagar
Pune, January 15, 2025: The tragic murder of a female IT employee in Viman Nagar has sparked widespread concern over workplace safety and law enforcement in Pune. In response, the Pune City Youth Congress, led by President Saurabh Amrale and General Secretary Harshad Hande, submitted a memorandum to the Pune Police Commissioner, demanding urgent action and stricter safety protocols for women employees in the IT sector.
During the meeting, Amrale highlighted significant security lapses at the IT firm WNS Global Services, where the incident occurred. He emphasized the urgent need for enhanced safety measures, including improved surveillance, better lighting, and mandatory background checks for all employees.
In a separate statement to WNS Global Services, Hande criticized the company for its inadequate safety infrastructure, citing insufficient CCTV coverage, lack of weapon detection systems, and absence of trained security personnel. The letter also pointed out the company’s non-compliance with the Occupational Safety, Health, and Working Conditions Code, 2020, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.
The Youth Congress urged WNS to implement immediate safety measures, such as installing CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas, deploying trained security staff, and introducing emergency response protocols. Additionally, Hande submitted a plea to the Regional Labour Commission, calling for a detailed investigation into the company’s negligence and imposing penalties for failing to uphold employee safety standards.
Prominent members of the Pune Youth Congress, including Vice President Saddam Shaikh, Kasba Vice President Akshay Navgire, General Secretary Harshad Hande, City Secretary Atharv Sonar, and other office bearers, were present during the submissions. The delegation reiterated their commitment to justice for the victim and the implementation of robust workplace safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
