Pune: In an effort to boost revenue, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) recently started the process of regularizing illegal kiosk advertisements on power poles along the roads that come under its jurisdiction.

Unauthorized pole kiosks had proliferated throughout the city, and the offenders had remained unpunished. It should be recalled that the PCMC had begun a procedure two years prior to suspend it, which involved floating tenders and assigning contracts in order to collect fees for pole kiosk advertisements.

According to a PCMC official, the PCMC used to charge for pole kiosk advertisements but stopped doing so. Ever since hoardings have expanded randomly. They have started the process anew, and in response, a letter was written to the town planning department asking for clarification on the fees. The confirmation letter was received two days ago and we will go ahead with it.

According to civic officials, 40 to 50 routes throughout the city have been identified by the PCMC’s sky sign department as potential locations for these kiosk advertisements to be mounted on electric poles. Each road had its own tender, with prices varying according to the area, each of the several zones that make up the road could have between 80 and 100 of these pole kiosks erected on it on average. Installation of a kiosk advertisement on electricity poles was permitted, with a maximum size of 2 by 3.

November 2021 marked the expiration of the civic body’s previous pole kiosk advertising contract; no new tender was issued. According to officials, plans are underway to begin the same procedure for gantry advertisements, which, if carried out, would bring in a sizable sum of money for PCMC.
