R K Laxman Art gallery to come up in Balewadi
The Late R K Laxman Gallery, based on the legendary cartoonist, shall soon be completed and open to the public. The work of R K Laxman Art Gallery is nearing completion.
This art gallery is dedicated to the famous cartoonist R K Laxman’s life journey where the visitors and cartoon enthusiasts can see his life from childhood in a pictorial way.
Journey of R K laxman will be shown as a movie in this gallery to let people know his work, how his life has been till he drew his last cartoon. This gallery is being named as a common man gallery whose work will be appreciated and cherished forever through his Art gallery show.
The coordinator of the art gallery, Rahul Kulkarni informed Pune Pulse about the gallery work that has almost come to an end and will be soon inaugurated. The gallery has a ‘Timeline section’ where the journey from childhood to his last cartoon can be seen by people as well as a family timeline where people can know about his family. This gallery will have pictures in Braille too so that even the differently abled (visually impaired) can see his work. There is a ‘Political room’ created separately where his works on politics through newspaper cuttings will be displayed. R K Laxman’s favorite Crow shall be displayed separately in a Crow Gallery. Visitors can see more than 15 crows in different actions. Hanging crows, sketch crows, etc will be an added attraction in this Gallery.
The Daughter in law of R K Laxman is Usha Laxman is looking after the work at the gallery minutely. 30 minute video has been shot for a better understanding of his life story.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Balewadi corporator Amol Balwadkar said, “The art gallery of the legendary cartoonist is indeed a pride moment for us. His work is beyond words and popular across the world. The art gallery work is in the final stages.”
