Rahul Kalate Joins BJP, Political Scene Shifts in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pune, December 23, 2025: The local political scene in Pimpri Chinchwad is witnessing a major development with former corporator Rahul Kalate officially joined the Bhartiya Janata Party today along with his supporters. The move is expected to significantly bolster the BJP’s presence in the city ahead of the forthcoming municipal and assembly elections. The official joining programme saw presence of Ravindra Chavan, Shankar Jagtap and Shatrughan Kate.
Kalate had contested the previous Assembly election on the ‘Tutari’ symbol and has been a prominent face in the Chinchwad Assembly constituency. Having contested the seat three times, he consistently gave strong competition to the eventual winners, earning a reputation as a leader with a solid voter base and growing public support.
Known for his strong grassroots connect, Kalate has built an extensive organisational network across the Chinchwad Assembly segment and other parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Several leaders from his camp, including former corporators and office bearers, had already joined the BJP in recent months, making today’s induction a decisive step that consolidates this political shift.
The impact of his entry is likely to be felt most strongly in Wakad Ward No. 25, where local political equations are expected to change. Observers believe his presence within the BJP could influence ticket aspirations and campaign strategies in the area.
Kalate’s political journey includes associations with Shiv Sena and later the Nationalist Congress Party, before his current move to the BJP. His decision has caused visible unease among rival parties, while BJP leaders view the development as a strategic gain that could play a key role in upcoming elections.
At the same time, similar momentum is building in Pune, where preparations for municipal elections are intensifying. Influential leader Surendra Pathare has also recently joined the BJP, a move expected to alter political dynamics in the Vadgaon Sheri constituency.
With a series of high-profile inductions, the BJP appears to be steadily consolidating its position as the region moves closer to a crucial electoral phase.
