Landslide in Maharashtra’s Raigad District: Several Rescued, NDRF Carries Out Rescue Operations for Trapped Victims

A devastating landslide triggered by heavy rains in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Thursday has left several people feared trapped. As of now, 22 individuals have been successfully rescued, and rescue operations are actively ongoing to locate and aid those still trapped in the debris.

The incident occurred in the village of Irshalwadi in Khalapur Tehsil, and authorities have swiftly responded to the disaster. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed two teams to conduct search and rescue efforts, and two additional teams are en route from Mumbai to join the mission, stated NDRF officials. Additionally, the Raigad Police has established a control room to coordinate relief efforts efficiently.

The situation has been exacerbated by relentless heavy rains that have been lashing the district for the past two days. In response to the challenging weather conditions and predictions of further heavy to very heavy rainfall, the State Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday for schools in Raigad district on July 20.

The rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate and save those who may still be trapped, and authorities are urging residents in the region to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines during this critical period. The full extent of the damage and the number of people trapped remains uncertain, but every effort is being made to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected community.
