Pune News: PMC sends notices to 547 establishments for mosquito breeding sites

Pune: With the onset of the monsoon season, dengue cases tend to rise. In order to address this concern, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a survey and found many places leading to mosquito breeding. PMC has sent notices to various establishments which were found responsible for creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

As per information, a total of  547 notices have been sent to different establishments in Pune from where more than Rs 1 lakh fine is collected so far.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Suryakant Deokar, Assistant Health & Immunization Officer, PMC said, “Since May, Dengue cases are on the rise. Heavy rain, contaminated water, bad environment and water accumulation at various places are some of the reasons for it. Hence, the PMC has done this exercise from June till the date of inspecting several places such as residential complexes, vehicle air filling shops, hotels, open eateries etc.”

“Cause of one death case in July in Pune is suspected to be due to Dengue. However, it is not confirmed yet,” he further added.

In May 2023, a total of 27 dengue cases were there in Pune. The number doubled to 54 in June. For July, 110 cases are suspected to have Dengue out of which 12 cases are confirmed.

The PMC has appealed to take adequate precautions to avoid mosquito-borne diseases. The following guidelines can be followed regularly to avoid getting infected by mosquito-borne & other diseases:

·         Citizens should use municipal corporation tap water for drinking as it has gone under relevant checks and is clean

·         Water from borewells, untreated canal water should not be used for drinking

·         The water tank to be supplied to schools, colleges should be cleaned

·         Do not eat food that is stale or in open spaces and keep food covered properly

·         If there is any defect in the drainage system, the information should be immediately reported to the concerned regional office or health department.
