Rajesh Agrawal Appointed Maharashtra’s New Chief Secretary
Mumbai, November 28, 2025: Rajesh Agrawal, currently the Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. The incumbent Chief Secretary, Rajesh Kumar, is set to retire on November 30, 2025, and Rajesh Agrawal will assume charge on the same day.
Brief Profile of Rajesh Agrawal:
Rajesh Agrawal is a 1989-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Maharashtra cadre, originally from Jalandhar, Punjab. He holds a B.Tech degree in Computer Systems.
During his illustrious career, he has held several key positions including:
- Assistant Collector, Ratnagiri
- CEO, Zilla Parishad, Jalgaon
- District Collector, Akola
- Deputy Special Commissioner, Maharashtra Sadan, New Delhi
- Private Secretary to the Union Minister of Rural Development
- Director at the Office of the Election Commissioner of India
- Secretary, General Administration Department, Maharashtra
- National Additional Chief Executive Officer, Internal Exchange of India, New Delhi
- Secretary in the Agriculture and Fisheries Department, Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, and Finance Department, Maharashtra
- Principal Secretary (Information Technology), General Administration Department
- Additional Secretary in central government departments including Finance, Tribal Development, Skill Development, Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Social Justice
He has also served as Director General (Training) of the Skill Development Department, and held multiple significant roles in both state and central government, reflecting his extensive administrative experience.
Rajesh Agrawal’s appointment is expected to bring continuity and experienced leadership to the state bureaucracy.
