Ramayan Director Ramanand Sagar’s Son Prem Sagar Passes Away at 84 in Mumbai

Prem Sagar, noted cinematographer, senior producer, and son of legendary filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 84. He was the father of producer Shiv Sagar.

According to family sources, he had been unwell for some time and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors advised that he be taken home on Sunday, where he breathed his last at 10 am. His cremation will be held today at 3 pm at the Pawan Hans cremation ground in Mumbai.

An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, from the 1968 batch, Prem Sagar built a strong foundation in photography and cinematography. He played a significant role in shaping the visual identity of several projects under Sagar Arts, the production company founded by his father.

Ramanand Sagar is best remembered for creating the iconic television series Ramayan, while Prem Sagar carried forward the family’s legacy in Indian cinema and television.
