Aam Aadmi Party opposes redevelopment of Balgandharva Rangmandir.

On Monday, May 9, leaders from Aam Admi Party staged a protest in front of Balgandharava Rangmandir.

BJP and NCP have political interest that’s why they want to construct a new building,” said a senior leader from AAP. Currently, the city has 14 theatres out of which only 3 are operational, said an AAP leader.

Murlidhar Mohol, former Mayor, Pune Municipal Corporation said, “We will always cherish the journey of Balgandharva Rangmandir. We plan to construct a new building in such a way that all Punekars will be proud of.”

The decision to construct a new building in the premises of Balgandharva Rangmandir was taken after a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday.

The redevelopment plan was first proposed by Murlidhar Mohol when he was the chairman of the standing committee 2018.

In the meeting with Ajit Pawar, the design of the new theatre was presented.

As per the new design, Balgandharva Randmandir will be expanded to 3.5 million square feet with parking facility for 800-900 two-wheelers and 350 four-wheelers.

Three new auditoriums will be formed with the capacity of 1000,500 and 300 seats.

In the current structure with 22,000 square feet, only 100 two wheelers can be parked along with 20-25 four-wheelers.

The new set-up will also have 3 new art galleries, a 10,000-feet one and 2 with 5,000 feet each.
