Pune: The Pune division regional office has asked school bus drivers to renew their vehicle fitness and speed limit certificates, before the start of the new academic year.

Majority of the school buses in the city were not operational for the past two years due to the pandemic.  

 “All the school buses should renew vehicle fitness certificate and speed limit certificate before the start of the new academic year. Action will be taken against drivers if the documents are not renewed,” said Ajit Shinde, Regional Transport Officer, Pune.

Around 8000 school buses used to operate before the pandemic in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

Deputy Regional Transport Officer Atul Aade has also informed that appropriate action will be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 if school children are found to be transported in vehicles without a valid qualification certificate.
