Rinku Singh’s Father Passes Away During T20 World Cup 2026; Was Battling Stage-4 Liver Cancer
Khanchandra Singh was undergoing treatment in Greater Noida; cricketer had rushed home after condition worsened
Team India batter Rinku Singh has suffered a personal loss amid the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. His father, Khanchandra Singh, passed away on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Greater Noida.
According to reports, Khanchandra Singh had been battling stage-4 liver cancer. His condition had deteriorated in recent days, following which he was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. He was said to be critical for the last two days and was on artificial respiratory support before he breathed his last.
Rinku Singh had left the Indian team camp after learning about his father’s deteriorating health. He departed from Chennai on February 24, reached Delhi and then travelled to Greater Noida to meet his father in hospital. That meeting is being described as their last.
Earlier this week, Rinku did not participate in Team India’s practice session at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium due to the medical emergency. At a press conference, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had confirmed that Rinku had returned home as his father’s condition was critical and expressed hope that he would rejoin the squad once the situation stabilised.
Khanchandra Singh reportedly struggled financially for much of his life and worked delivering gas cylinders door-to-door. Rinku Singh has often spoken about his difficult childhood and the financial hardships his family faced. After establishing himself in professional cricket, he had persuaded his father to quit the physically demanding job. The cricketer had recently gifted him an expensive sports bike, reflecting their close bond.
The Indian team is currently participating in the T20 World Cup, and Rinku Singh is part of the squad. With his father’s passing, it remains to be seen whether he will continue in the tournament or take time away from cricket.
Condolences have begun pouring in for the cricketer and his family as they cope with the loss.
