Road width reduced after reconstruction ; allege residents of Wakad
Several roads in Wakad have undergone transformation in the last few years. The recent one on Datta Mandir road has seen reduction in width of the road after it was concretised, alleged residents.
Residents informed that the construction of the footpath near Silver Skyscapes and Omega Paradise society road on Datta Mandir in Wakad has reduced the width of the existing road and will lead to traffic congestion.
“I had raised a query about road width is not enough for commutation of 2 vehicles even. The current road is 18 meters in width and under smart scheme it has brought to 9 meters straightaway. No planning of future. These internal roads are not required with very big footpath. So, today’s visit has not shown any pointer on the actual issue though, ” said Tushar Siddam, Chairman Silver Skyscapes society.
“When we called the officials they did not show any interest in attending to our complaints. They do not want to share the plan with the local residents. Just visiting the place for a photo opportunity session is not justified and will not resolve the problem,” said Tejaswini Dhomse, Chairman Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Federation.
“I have instructed the concerned department to resolve the issue, ” said Mayur Kalate Corporator.
“It is an 18-meter road and inspected the whole area. It will have a 2 meter footpath, out of which 1 meter will be used for tree plantation and minimum 4-5 feet will be kept for pedestrians. After the pilot project is successful only then it will be created permanent and replicated too,” said Rahul Kalate, Corporator.
“Citizens are not aware of the technical details. Each detail of the construction of road, footpath is studied at the site,” said Vilas Desale, SGBT Engineer, D Ward.
