In a bid to tackle urban citizens’ indifference towards voting, various organizations in Pune have joined forces to increase voter turnout in the upcoming elections. At a press conference held today, representatives from Pune Nagrik Manch, CREDAI, Art of Living, Pune Hoteliers Association, Pune Restaurateurs Association, Petrol Hoteliers Dealers Association, Pune District Housing Society, and Apartment Federation came together to discuss their efforts.

To motivate citizens to cast their votes, these organizations are offering attractive incentives. Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Petrol Dealers Association, announced that voters can avail a discount of 50 rupees worth of free petrol on engine oil purchases on November 20. Ganesh Shetty from the Pune Restaurateurs and Hoteliers Association shared that voters will receive a 10% discount on food at 550 member restaurants and hotels.

The Art of Living Pune, with 950 teachers and 5 lakh members, aims to reach 40 lakh people on social media. Pune Hotels Association president Amit Kumar Sharma declared that all 74 member hotels will offer a 10% discount across Pune, and staff members have pledged to vote. CREDAI Pune Metro, led by President Ranjeet Naiknavare, will reach out to 500 members, 50,000 employees, and their vast customer base.

Senior citizen groups, women’s groups, laughter clubs, and housing societies are also joining the campaign. Suhas Patwardhan from the Pune District Housing Society and Apartment Federation mentioned that efforts have been underway for three months to increase senior citizen voting in cooperative housing societies.

To create buzz around voting, these organizations are setting up selfie points at voting locations, creating war rooms at the society level, and organizing poster competitions. Citizens of Pune are urged to actively participate in this grand democratic festival.

By collective efforts, Pune aims to address the recent apathy towards voting and boost voter turnout. Will these initiatives make a difference? Only time will tell.
