Pune: Since Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has appointed a special ‘Flying Squad’ to crack down on illegal vehicles. It has taken action against over 150 illegal vehicles from September 1.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Commissioner, RTO Pune said, “ The main reason for RTO’s law enforcement action on these vehicles was the growing concern of accidents due to sand particles entering the eyes and falling onto the road. The squad checked cargo carriers, school buses, vans and auto rickshaws. A large car with a capacity of six plus one is used to ferry up to 8 children up to the age of 12, however, this is not allowed. These vehicles often disregard regulations and can ferry up to ten to twelve children simultaneously. Furthermore, school buses are not allowed to be used to transport school children, as they are over fifteen years old.”

As per further information from Bhor, in just a week, action has been taken against 86 construction vehicles without covering the goods by tarpaulin, 42 school buses carrying school children without valid permits & 54 auto rickshaws cases i.e. a total of 182 vehicles.

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) is also clamping down on vehicles that are used to transport passengers without a permit, driving license and badges.

Flying squads of the RTO are apprehending vehicle owners for this violation. These vehicles are most commonly found at airports, railway stations, and bus stands such as Swargate Bus Stand and Shivaji Nagar.
