NPCI launches ‘Hello UPI’ feature to make voice-enabled UPI Payments

Pune : The Digital India initiative has been instrumental in the steady progress of the UPI payment facility in the country. This payment system has gained popularity not only in India but also in several other countries worldwide. As per the information provided, in order to enhance the user experience, the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has recently introduced a new feature. This new feature enables users to transfer money through phone calls without requiring an internet connection. The announcement was made by the Reserve Bank of India Governor, Shaktikanta Das, during the Global Fintech Fest. In addition to this, NPCI has also launched other features related to UPI, including the ‘Hello UPI’ feature. This feature allows users to send money by calling a specific number from their registered mobile number. Different numbers have been assigned for different banks, and users will need to provide their bank’s name and transaction details before making the payment using their UPI PIN. Currently, the facility is available in Hindi and English, with plans to introduce other languages soon. The NPCI has also incorporated AI technology to facilitate this type of payment. However, the Hello UPI feature is currently limited to transactions up to Rs 100.Furthermore, the credit line feature has also been launched on UPI, enabling users to obtain pre-approved loans from banks and conduct transactions on the UPI platform using the loans already taken. Another service called ‘Light X’ has also been introduced by NPCI, which allows users to do transactions without an internet connection.
