Salil Ankola’s Mother Found Dead in Pune; Investigation On
Pune, October 5, 2024: Former cricketer Salil Ankola’s mother, Mala Ankola (77), was found dead at her residence on Prabhat Road, Pune, on Friday. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the death was a case of suicide or if foul play was involved.
Mala Ankola lived alone in her apartment at Aadi Building on Rege Path in Pune’s Deccan area. Her daughter, who resides nearby, frequently visited her mother. According to police reports, the incident came to light when Mala did not answer the door for her domestic help around 11 a.m.
After repeated attempts to contact her, the housemaid alerted Mala’s daughter, who sent a man with the house keys. Upon entering the apartment, the maid and the building’s security guard found Mala unconscious on her bed with visible injuries to her neck. She was immediately taken to a private hospital, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Joint Commissioner of Police, Ranjan Kumar Sharma, confirmed that a police team had been dispatched to the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible suicide, as the injuries appear to have been self-inflicted. However, officers are exploring all angles, including potential foul play. It was also noted that the CCTV camera at the residence was not functional.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are awaiting further forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death.
