The design of the two-story food plaza at Sarasbaug, which will replace the current roadside eateries, has been finalized by the PMC.

The PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar announced the completion of the tendering process. The groundwork will soon be initiated by the contractor, he said.

The PMC Commissioner added that a variety of eateries, including those owned by international food chains, would be located in the food plaza. There would be 40 shops on the second floor and 50 shops on the first floor. The food plaza would include all of Sarasbaug’s currently authorized food vendors. A parking lot with space for about 200 cars would be provided.

PMC officials claim that numerous eateries along an internal road on Sarasbaug’s northern edge draw large crowds on weekends and evenings, creating significant traffic jams and having a domino effect on Bajirao Road and Tilak Road. The current locations of the food joints is heavily encroached.
