Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar has announced that school timings will change. He stated that from the coming academic year, schools, for students up to class II, will start only after 9 am.

Kesarkar said that he agrees with this view of the Maharashtra Governor regarding school timings. Hence, a committee has been constituted to ponder upon & take a decision regarding this.

At the same time, after receiving the report of the committee of psychologists and paediatricians, further decisions will be taken in this regard.

Kesarkar further added that primary to secondary school timings will be only after 9 am. However, a committee will be formed to take a decision regarding other classes. Due to changing lifestyles, if there is school early in the morning, children do not get enough sleep.

Due to this, earlier in December 2023, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais had advised the state education department that due to changing lifestyles, everyone’s sleep timings have changed and there is an increased tendency of everyone to sleep late at night.
