Schoolboy’s Speech On Mahatma Goes Viral, Urges Youngsters to Understand Him
A schoolboy’s address, in which he critiques young people for their lack of understanding of Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy, has gained widespread attention online.
“Badi ajeeb vidambana hai ki Gandhi ke desh ke logon ne Gandhi ko sabse kam padha aur samjha. Harry Potter aur Chetan Bhagat ko din raat ghor dopahari ek karke padhne wali yuva peedhi agar Gandhi ji ko tabiyat se padh di hoti to aaj peedhiyon ka sabak aaj shayad kuch aur hota. Lekin humne aisa nahi kiya aur yehi kaaran hai ki aaj tamaam fancy aur facebookiya gyaan humare paas ho gaye hain,” these are words from a speech by a school boy.
A student from Central Hindu Boys School in Varanasi gave an impactful speech highlighting Gandhi’s legacy, encouraging young people to focus on his teachings rather than contemporary pop culture.

It is rather ironic that the individuals in Gandhi’s homeland seem to have the least comprehension of his teachings. The younger generation, engrossed in the works of Harry Potter and Chetan Bhagat, might have gained a profoundly different perspective had they devoted time to studying Gandhi’s principles. Unfortunately, this has not been the case, leading to a prevalence of superficial knowledge often showcased on platforms like Facebook.
”I want to say that there was no bigger Hindu than Gandhi. But the people of other religions didn’t fear his ‘Hey Ram’ because Gandhi was a symbol of secularism in India. The Britisher who kicked Gandhi out of the train, if he could anticipate that the man would overthrow the British Raj, he would have never done it,” continues his speech.
The video sparked several comments. Onne user commented, “This boy has given a good speech.” Another said, “Dil jeet liya Chhore ne. (The boy has won everyone’s heart.)”
He also highlights that those who blame Gandhi for the partition of India and Pakistan tend to ignore the fact that Gandhi was, in reality, the most secular leader in India’s history. The young speaker concludes his presentation with a poem by Dushyant Kumar.
The video has garnered considerable attention on X, amassing 42,200 likes to date.
