Police and bomb squad conduct thorough checks; investigation underway to trace sender behind fake threat emails.

Superstar Rajinikanth and actor-director Dhanush were among the latest targets of a series of bomb hoaxes that have recently unsettled the city’s celebrity and political circles. According to police sources, an anonymous email was sent to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP), later forwarded to the Greater Chennai City Police, claiming that explosives had been planted at the residences of Rajinikanth, Dhanush, and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai.

Following the alert, the Teynampet Police and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to Rajinikanth’s Poes Garden residence to conduct a security sweep. Officials reported that no suspicious items were found and that no unauthorized person had entered the premises. The bomb squad subsequently inspected the other properties mentioned in the email, confirming all the threats to be hoaxes.

Police officials have intensified their investigation, with the Cyber Crime Wing now tracing the IP address, sender ID, and server details of the email. Preliminary findings suggest that the message was sent maliciously or as a prank, but officers have emphasized that the threat is being treated seriously. “We are tracking down the source of the email, and strict action will be taken against the culprit once identified,” said a senior police officer.

In the aftermath, security has been tightened outside Rajinikanth’s residence, with barricades erected and vehicles entering the area being screened. Additional personnel have been deployed round the clock to ensure the safety of the actor, his family, and staff.

This incident follows a series of similar hoaxes in Chennai. On October 2, emails were sent claiming bombs were planted at the homes and offices of several VIPs, including Trisha Krishnan and S. Ve. Shekher. On October 9, police arrested a 37-year-old man named Shabik for a hoax call about a bomb at actor-politician Vijay’s Neelankarai residence. A few days later, on October 14, music composer Ilaiyaraaja’s studio in T. Nagar was also targeted — again determined to be false. Even Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and other politicians have been subjected to such threats in recent weeks.

The police have urged the public not to panic or spread rumours about such incidents and warned that spreading false information or hoax emails will invite severe legal consequences.

Rajinikanth, who was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s “Coolie”, is currently filming Nelson Dilipkumar’s “Jailer 2”, and is also set to collaborate with Kamal Haasan in an upcoming project. Dhanush, meanwhile, recently appeared in Sekhar Kammula’s “Kuberaa” and his self-directed film “Idli Kadai”, and will next feature in Aanand L Rai’s “Tere Ishk Mein”.

Police officials confirmed that Rajinikanth and his family are safe, and investigations are ongoing to identify the source behind the recurring hoax threats across Chennai.
