Government finalises 50-acre Hotgi Road site; project set to generate over 45,000 jobs and ease Pune’s IT burden.

Solapur is gearing up to host Maharashtra’s second-largest IT Park, a massive development described as the state’s next major technology hub after Pune’s Hinjawadi. The announcement, initiated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has accelerated land identification, administrative approvals and infrastructure planning for what will also become India’s third-largest IT Park.

The project has now taken concrete shape with the selection of a 50-acre land parcel on Hotgi Road, originally owned by the Water Resources Department. This land has already been handed over to MIDC for IT Park development, marking the beginning of Solapur’s largest-ever tech infrastructure push. According to district officials, the new IT Park will significantly reduce pressure on Pune’s saturated IT corridors and create fresh employment opportunities within Solapur district.

Before finalising Hotgi Road, the administration had inspected two alternate locations — the old Juni Mill site and Hiraj. However, the Juni Mill land is under legal dispute and was found insufficient, while the Hiraj site falls in the Maldhok area, making it unsuitable for large-scale development. With both options considered problematic, Hotgi Road emerged as the preferred site. The District Collector has clarified that while the location has been agreed upon, formal finalisation and notifications are moving through the approval pipeline.

The proposed IT Park will be built with an estimated investment of about ₹38 crore, covering internal roads, water supply, street lighting and essential infrastructure. The Airport Authority has also cleared construction for buildings up to 50 metres in height, confirming that the park will not obstruct aircraft flight paths.

Once operational, the park is expected to accommodate 45,000 or more employees, with scope for future expansion if required. Officials have pointed out that IT-sector work typically takes place in controlled indoor environments, meaning Solapur’s heat will have minimal impact on daily operations. The administration is also working on measures to control pollution from NTPC and sugar factories in surrounding areas, ensuring an environment suitable for corporate and tech activity.

The new IT Park is projected to be completed within 18 months, positioning Solapur as Maharashtra’s emerging technology hub and offering a strategic alternative to Pune’s overstretched IT landscape. With large-scale job creation, stable infrastructure and direct government backing, the project is set to boost the region’s economy and attract technology companies looking to expand beyond metro locations.
