The Indian tech industry has been greatly impacted by Silicon Valley’s difficult terrain of economic slowdown and layoffs. Tech giants like Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple, and others are reportedly slowing down their hiring procedures and may even decide to stop hiring altogether.

These tech giants are reportedly putting a halt to hiring because of the global economic slowdown. The number of active job postings of these tech giants in India has decreased by 90 per cent when compared to 2022. As few as 200 open positions are currently held by companies in India, which is 98% fewer than their usual hiring levels.

The industry’s current difficult times are reflected in the major tech giants’ hiring freeze. The world economy is contracting, and businesses are finding it difficult to increase profits, carry out reorganization plans, and see a halt in project development.

A researcher said that the low to no hiring action maintained by the cohort over the year will continue to impact tech talent movements, especially in the experienced lateral layers. He also emphasized that smaller businesses should proceed with caution when top companies halt hiring. Replacement hiring action is necessary to maintain the status quo, with no significant net talent additions recorded.

For the next two quarters, cautious hiring practices are anticipated, according to IT analysts and industry experts. Weakening demand and an emphasis on enhancing employee utilization are the causes of this.

Notably, the main tech companies—Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, and Google—now employ slightly less than 150,000 people in India for their core business. However, there was a notable slowdown in hiring in 2023.
