When a casual comment on a political leader’s social media post unexpectedly gets a direct response from the leader himself, it quickly turns into a talking point. Something similar unfolded during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s election-related activities in West Bengal, where an Instagram interaction grabbed widespread attention online.

Shah had recently posted a sunset video on Instagram, using the caption to sharply criticize the state’s ruling party. He wrote, “The sun of the TMC’s corruption and hooliganism has set.”

Among the many comments on the post, one stood out from a supporter who was waiting for Shah’s arrival at a campaign event in Madhyamgram Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas. Expressing frustration over the delay while standing in the heat, the user wrote, “Jaldi aa jaiye. Amit JL. khade hai hum log road show k liye garmi me bohot der se” (Please come quickly, Amit ji. We have been standing in the heat for a long time waiting for the roadshow.)

What made the exchange go viral was Shah’s unexpected reply to the comment. He responded briefly, “Sorry for the delay. Reaching there in 10 mins.”

Following this interaction, Shah did arrive for the scheduled roadshow in Madhyamgram, where he campaigned for BJP candidate Anindya Raju Banerjee, who is contesting against Trinamool Congress MLA Rathin Ghosh.

Later, sharing visuals from the event on X, Shah linked the large gathering to political sentiment in the area. He wrote that the people of Madhyamgram had not forgotten the alleged atrocities in Sandeshkhali and described the turnout as a sign of changing political mood, saying the crowd represented “a symbol of the end of the grassroots regime.”

The roadshow came at a time when West Bengal’s multi-phase Assembly elections are underway. Voting for the first phase concluded on Thursday at 6 pm, with an impressive turnout of 91.83% recorded by the Election Commission. The next phase of polling is scheduled for April 29.
