SPPU’s Dr. Priyanka Manoj Jawale selected as a Legal Officer at the Ministry of External Affairs

Savitribai Phule Pune University has started its unique Postdoctoral Programme, and Dr. Priyanka Jawale is from its first batch of SPPU-PDF 2019.

Recently, the Union Public Service Commission has announced the results for the higher positions that required certain years of experience in the specific field. Dr. Priyanka Jawale is selected as a Legal Officer in the Law and Treaty Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The portfolio for this position requires looking after India’s International legal affairs. UPSC conducted the whole selection process for the six (6) Positions of the Legal officer for the Ministry of External Affairs, but ultimately from all over India, UPSC only selected three (3) candidates (including SPPU postdoc fellow) based on their subject expertise and required skills.

Dr Jawale is Ph.D. in Nuclear Energy Laws, and now her postdoctoral research work is in the domain of Space laws, particularly ‘the use of Nuclear in Space exploration: Law and Policy’, under the mentorship of Sr. Prof. Dr. Durgambini Patel, at the Department of Law, Savitribai Phule Pune University. Dr. Priyanka Jawale is working in the area of nuclear energy laws and spaces laws and policy. Earlier, Dr. Jawale had participated and presented her research work at the International Conference organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (Vienna Head office, Austria), the United Nation’s specialized organization in the area of concern. She also worked as a UN Rapporteur at the UN/Turkey/APSCO Conference on Space Law and Policy in Istanbul, Turkey. She was nominated to present her work at the International Youth Nuclear Congress-2020 in Sydney. This year Dr. Jawale was invited to speak at the UN/Austria Symposium ‘Space Applications for Food Systems’ organized by the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) (Online Event) on 7-9 September 2021.

In this event, Dr. Jawale was the panelist for Session 3: Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Space Applications for Food Systems. Recently, on 26-27 October 2021, the International Nuclear Law Association (INLA Virtual Inter Jura Congress- 2021) was organized by INLA US – Chapter. At this conference, as a part of Working Group 3 (WG-3 International Nuclear Trade and New Build), Dr. Jawale gave a presentation on the theme of environmental perspectives of the nuclear power sources in outer space.
