SRPF gate opens for public after 1.5 years of struggle

For the last one and half year, the residents of Wanowrie, mainly living near State Reserve Police Force Group 2 were in great trouble as the approach road to the SRPF near Alankaran Lawns was closed by installing a gate. People had no access to the area as the gate remained closed for more than one year. 

This closure of the road led to inconvenience causing to residents living in Vikas Nagar, Tatya Tope society, Jai Jawan society, SRPF Group 1 and 2, as this was the shortest route to reach the state reserve police area. 
After two years of consistent follow up with the state government, mainly with the home affairs department, the road was finally opened for public to access on April 5.

Prashant Jagtap, ex PMC corporator from Wanowrie and President, Nationalist Congress Party, Pune city informed, “The closure of road meant no access to the SRPF area and nearby areas too. This road was in use for the last 60 years. Sudden closure of the road gave a big shock to the residents living in the nearby areas. Since then the citizens faced huge inconvenience to travel to their destinations. But it was consistent follow up with the deputy chief minister and Pune district guardian minister Ajit Pawar, Dilip Walse Patil, state home minister who gave us the green signal to use the road like before. A meeting was held in the mantralaya recently alongwith thr officials of the SRPF, home ministry, Maharashtra govt where the decision was taken to allow citizens to use the road.”

Ali Rajkotwala, a local resident said, “The gate being closed affected to almost 400 homes and around 10,000 people. Now that the gate is opened each one of us is happy that our demands are met.”  The road was finally given green signal on April 1 in the meeting held alongwith DIG Rajneesh Sheth, home secretary Anand Limaye, District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, SRPF ADG Chiranjeev Prasad, DIG Baviskar, Mangesh Shinde, Commandant, SRPF Group 2, SRPF Group 1 Commandant Sandeep Diwan, and other senior officials at Mantralaya. 

Jagtap said that the final on the spot meeting was held on April 4 where the officials visited the area and after completing all the technicalities the road was opened on April 5 midnight.
