Pune: In October, a recent alert from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) revealed that 59 drugs, including those from well-known companies, were deemed to be ‘not of standard quality’. The CDSCO conducted tests on a total of 1,105 samples, as stated in their alert.

According to the report, out of the entire quantity, 61 samples were identified as ‘not of standard quality’. These samples included two unlabelled vials with a white seal, claimed to contain Tigecycline 50 mg and two samples of phenolic disinfecting multi-purpose surface cleaner-cum-deodoriser (Lytner). However, the count was reduced to 59 as two drug samples were duplicated. The testing of these drug samples was conducted at different authorized statutory laboratories by the CDSCO.

The other samples referred to as ‘non-standard quality’ consist of Cefixime Oral Suspension IP, Amoxicillin, Potassium Clavulanate and Lactic Acid Bacillus Tablets (GAMPCLAV-625 LB Tablets), Rabeprazole Sodium (enteric coated) and Domperidone (sustained release) Capsules (20 mg/30 mg), Diclofenac Sodium Tablets IP 50 mg, Albendazole Tablets IP 400 mg, Ofloxacin, Ornidazole, Itraconazole and Clobetasol Propionate Cream (Derma -RX Cream), and Vitamin C (Orange Syrup).
