WhatsApp functions as a micro social networking platform where users can share their moments and stories using photos and videos in status updates. However, the app’s compression algorithm often reduces the quality of these media files, making them appear blurry and less attractive. 

Fortunately, there’s a workaround to this problem that allows users to upload content in high definition. Below are the steps to ensure your WhatsApp status updates maintain their crisp, clear quality.

WhatsApp permits users to upload videos between 90 seconds to 3 minutes long, with a maximum file size of 16MB. Videos are typically compressed to 360p on slower connections and 480p on faster connections such as 5G or WiFi. Yet, by adhering to a particular process, it’s possible to upload photos and videos in high definition (720p) to your WhatsApp status, sidestepping the app’s standard compression methods.

To start, open a conversation with your own contact on WhatsApp.

Next, select the camera icon and pick the photo or video you wish to use for your status update.

Then, tap on the HD icon and opt for the high-definition (HD) quality setting for your chosen photo or video.

Finally, hit the send button to upload the media in high definition (720p) resolution. This step will prevent WhatsApp from applying its typical compression.

After sending the HD media to yourself, long-press on the video or photo, then tap the share button.

On the sharing screen, choose “My Status.”

Following these steps will enable you to upload your photo or video in high definition on your WhatsApp status. You can then upload another video using the standard method from the status tab and compare the two to discern the quality disparity.
