Strict no to crackers or fireballs, says police

Ahead of the Ganeshostav festivities, the police have prohibited the usage of fireballs or crackers with inflammable material or release them in the air on roads, public spaces or in front of the Ganesh mandals, within the jurisdiction of Pune city police commissionerate.

The order is applicable from August 31 till September 10, this year. Pune city police joint commissioner (law and order) Sandip Karnik warned that action will be taken if the order is violated.

“During Ganeshotsav, mandals create fireballs with the help of kerosene, diesel, petrol and gas during processions. This may cause danger to life and property. So, as per Section 144 of the code of criminal procedure, 1973, use of inflammable materials, is prohibited from August 31 to September 10, 2022. Violators of the order shall be liable to punishment under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.”
